
This garbage patch floating around in the ocean is something I’d heard of before, but never investigated. Oddly enough, there is apparently a patch of garbage roughly the size of the continental United States just floating around in the Pacific ocean. The trash happily floats around between the US and China, and is steadily becoming a more terrible problem every year.
Plastic has this interesting little feature about it where it doesn’t biodegrade. So, rather than Mother Nature cleaning up our mess for us, it gets worse. The plastic simply breaks apart into smaller bits and eventually ends up in the stomachs of fish. Which we eat.
