I just finished reading an article on PR Newswire about the former White House Drug Policy spokesman Bob Weiner. After some childish laughter about his name, I actually started to read the copy, which starts off with him warning the Obama administration about their new lax policies on medical marijuana. Essentially, Obama decided to let the state laws providing for medical pot actually be valid.
Previously, under the rule of George “Frat Boy” Bush, the DEA pretty much did whatever the hell they damn well pleased. If they wished to raid a dispensary that was operating legally under CA’s state laws, didnt matter. NOW, if the state law says it’s legal, it’s actually legal. What a concept!
A few quotes stolen from the PR Newswire article:
“Be careful about the new lax enforcement policy for medical marijuana,”
“Prescription marijuana use may explode for healthy people.”
This is an argument used far too many times. In my opinion, does it really matter if the prescription use explodes for healthy people? Currently, healthy people are allowed to buy as much booze and cigarettes as they want! In fact, I’ve been to a few places that sell the aforementioned booze & cigarettes within 5 feet of handguns/rifles & ammo. On top of that, a small amount of alcohol can turn a normal, healthy, well-adjusted, calm person into a ragingly violent monster in a matter of minutes. Marijuana will most likely make that same person hungry, happy, and sleepy. If anything, an “explosion” in marijuana use, that is thereby taxed, would mean an explosion in new tax dollars for the government.
